Aegis Leader Spreads God's Word
Living Sent
In July of 2015, I moved to the middle Tennessee area to work as the Director of Public Relations for the TCT Television Network. TCT bought stations in Nashville and Atlanta and my job was to develop cooperative relationships with pastors, community leaders, other media outlets, and the communities in general. The best thing about my job is that I get to meet extraordinary people, the kind of people who are stepping up and making a difference in the world.
There have been many, what I call, “God moments”. One of which occurred at a Living Sent event. I attended their annual banquet not knowing what to expect. I heard several speakers that had great stories, but one stood out. He was introduced as Dr. Black. Dr. Black is a toxicologist and the Founder/CEO of Aegis Labs. “Where had I heard that name, Aegis, Aegis, Aegis?” Then it came to me!
Before accepting the position with TCT I worked as a clinical social worker seeing patients for psychotherapy in a medical practice. “That’s it!” I began to put it together. Many of us were Christians in that practice and were blessed to have each other as a source of counsel and support. My friend, Rebecca Brannon, worked for a contracted lab service. It was Aegis!
Aegis emails scripture and motivational words of encouragement each day to their employees. Rebecca and I would touch base each day to catch up on what God was doing in each of our lives and she would share the message for that day. And it didn’t stop with me, as the spirit would lead; Rebecca would copy the scripture or thought for the day and give it to other employees. Many times it was the word rightly spoken that the Bible talks about. I can remember thinking what wonderful leadership this company had. Their willingness to take a stand for the Gospel and invest in their employees in this way really got my attention.
That night at the banquet I was so excited. I was getting to hear the man who made all those good words that had been poured into me possible. As soon as the banquet was over I rushed to my car and called Rebecca. “You will never guess who I just heard speak, Dr. Black!!!!!” We both reminisced on how God used those daily emails.
I wondered, does Dr. Black know the impact of his sending those daily messages to his employees made in our staff? He was sowing seeds not knowing every place they would take root or what harvest they would produce. How about you? What are you sowing into the world you work in? Dr. Black was obedient. He did his part. Producing fruit from those efforts was God’s part He was faithful to do just that!
What a great example of LIVING SENT! Thank you Dr. Black for your faithfulness!

How to Live Sent
According to Dr. Amy Sherman, there are at least 4 ways to Live Sent:
1. Bloom where you are planted.
Care to help build the Kingdom right where God has you assigned in the marketplace?
2. Start something new.
Do you have a passion for addressing an unmet community need? Consider forming either a for profit or nonprofit company and start something new.
3. Give your skills (vocational) away to a community ministry.
Is there a community ministry that could benefit from your vocational skills and talents?
4. A Church Big Vision for the City.
Does your church have a Big Vision for the City? Do you have one and want to encourage your church to consider helping you to develop it?
